![]() Getting it re-chipped is likely not going to happen. If you don’t have time to read this article, then the all-round best Sigma lens for Canon is the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM, with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art, and the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art making up the wide-angle and mid-range zoom best Sigma lenses for Canon respectively. If you only want to use it WO, then keep it, but if you need/want it stopped down, then I'd try to arrange a return, or resell it (with full disclosure - even though you'll probably take a loss). Frankly, IMO, the seller should have been upfront about this issue, but it's possible they didn't even know. For quite a few years Sigma rechipped them at no cost, but I'm pretty sure they don't even make the chips to do so any more, and won't at any cost. As mentioned, Sigma has a 10-20mm f/4-5. ![]() Sigma was bashed around quite a bit from that fiasco, and you'll still see (even today) comments occasionally complaining about hypothetical incompatibility issues (even though it's now many years back). Of course buyers in that era may or may not have gotten 'new' vs. ![]() My understanding is that by the end of 2001, everything they were actively making was fully compatible (and of course were offering the rechip) - though I can't say for certain. Obviously lenses that are newer don't have the issue, but I'd guess you found a copy that was made prior to 2001, and has never been rechipped. works fine WO, but stop it down, and it pops an ERR 01. Your first post confused me, but the following clarified it - 'sports' mode generally chooses as fast a shutter speed as possible (resulting in WO (f5) condition very often - especially with slow lenses)
